श्यामवर्णविशिष्टत्वात् श्यामला |
1. She who is of a dark (bluish-black) complexion is named Shyāmalā.
श्यामलासु प्रधानभूतत्वात् राजश्यामला |
2. She who is the chief of Shyāmalā-s (Mātaṅginī-s) is named Rājaśyāmalā.
मातङ्गकुम्भसदृशवक्षोजविशिष्टत्वात् मातङ्गीत्वम् |
3. She is also called Mātaṅgī on account of her ample bosom which resembles the frontal globes on the forehead of an elephant.
मतङ्गानन्दनाथस्य प्रसन्नत्वात् मातङ्गी | मतङ्गस्य प्रसन्नत्वान्मातङ्गीति वरानने |
4. She who graced the great upāsaka Mataṅgānandanātha is referred to as Mātaṅgī.
मातङ्गीषु प्रधानत्वात् राजमातङ्गी |
5. She who is the chief of Mātaṅgī-s is called Rājamātaṅgī.
सा श्यामला तु विद्याया मुद्रां वहति मुद्रिणी |
6. She who bears the Rājamudrā of the Supreme Queen Lalitā Parābhaṭṭārikā is called Mudrinī. The esoteric context of the word mudrā and that of the role of Mudriṇī in śrīvidyā should be learned from a guru well-versed in śākta yōga.
श्रीमातङ्गी महादेव्याः सचिवस्थानमीरितम् |
यो मातङ्गीं महादेवीं श्यामलां पर्युपासते ||
महात्रिपुरसुन्दर्यास्ते प्रिया नात्र संशयः |
राजानं सचिवद्वारा यो नित्यं पर्युपासते |
राजानस्सहसा तस्य भवन्ति वरदाः खलु ||
7. Rājaśyāmalā is the prime minister of the Supreme Queen Rājarājēśvarī. Hence she is called Mantriṇī or Sachivēśānī. In this world, one who approaches the King through his minister quickly gains the desired boon from the King. Similarly, one who approaches śrīvidyā Mahāripurasundarī after availing the grace of Rājamātaṅgī doubtlessly attains the grace of Mahārājñī.
One who worships Rājamātaṅgī along with her retinue of twelve Mātaṅginī śaktis (Laghuśyāmalā, Vāgvādinī, Stambhinī śyāmalā or Nakulīśvarī, Hasantī śyāmalā, Shārikā śyāmalā, Shukaśyāmalā, Saṅgīta śyāmalā, Sāhitya śyāmalā, Kalyāṇamātaṅgī, Jagadrañjanī mātaṅgī, Vidyunmātaṅgī, and Sumukhī) can attain even the impossible.
