Srikrama Balidana Prayoga

Today, most perform Navāvaraṇa pūjā using the Khaḍgamālā. Even when one performs the actual pūjā along with pātrāsādana prayōga, Balidāna is not given prominence. The pūjā is concluded by offering only sarvabhūta-bali. If a sādhaka wants to attain siddhi of the Navāvaraṇa pūjā-prayōga and attain the grace of iṣṭadēvatā, Balidāna has to be performed with great attention. The sahasranāma of Rājarājēśvarī asserts that Parāmbā is pleased by Bali, Hōma, Tarpaṇa and Nāmapārāyaṇa. It should be noted that, according to āgamas, the very definition of the act of worship is based on Bali. If one performs saparyā till nīrājana, such an act is termed archana, till naivēdya called pūjā and all the way till balidāna is called śānti.

Bali is offered not only in the samaṣṭi but also for each of the nine āvaraṇas of śrīcakrarāja.

1. Vakratuṇḍa bali
2. Dattātrēya bali
3. Laghuśyāmalā + Uchciṣṭa Mahāgaṇapati (prathamāvaraṇa bali)
4. Dakṣiṇā Kālikā + Mahākāla Bhairava (dvitīyāvaraṇa bali)
5. Bagalāmukhī + Mahāgaṇapati (tr̥tīyāvaraṇa bali)
6. Kāmēśvarī + Rājagōpāla (chaturthāvaraṇa bali)
7. Tripurabhairavī + Vaṭukanātha (pañcamāvaraṇa bali)
8. āsurīdurgā + Aghōra (ṣaṣṭhāvaraṇa bali)
9. Kālarātri + Kārtavīryārjuna (saptamāvaraṇa bali)
10. Annapūrṇā + Pañcavaktra Sadāśiva (aṣṭamāvaraṇa bali)
11. Kamalātmikā + Mantrarāja Nr̥simha (navamāvaraṇa bali)
12. Gaṇapati bali
13. Vaṭuka bali
14. Kṣētrapāla bali
15. Yōginī bali
16. Sarvabhūta bali
17. Vārtāḷī bali
18. Kurukullā bali
19. Sumukhī bali
20. Rājarājēśvara bali

Additionally, sampradāya-bali is also offered. Our lineage offers a bali to Vanadurgā. Many following Kēralācāra offer bali to śūlinīdurgā as their tutelary deity. Some others offer bali to local deities such as Hiraṇyakēśī, Banaśaṅkarī, etc. that guard their home or property.

One who regularly performs vimshati-bali during Navāvaraṇa pūjā prayōga attains kṣipra-siddhi. One then graduates further to undertake thirty-six and sixty-four kinds of Balidāna.
