The Yōnimudrā (finger gesture) is of great importance in the worship of Mahātripurasundarī and is used for every purpose starting with the invocation of the deity to removing flaws in the mantra japa. It is said to be of eight types.
1. The first type is the Mahāyōni or Sarvayōnimudrā popularly known and listed as a part of the daśamudrās of Tripurasundarī (daśamudrāsamārādhyā).
2. The second modification of this mudrā is called Khēcarī mudrā, which grants one the siddhi of Nīlasarasvatī or Ugratārā mantra.
3. A small modification to the above mudrā results in a form called Guhyayōni mudrā, which causes tuṣṭi to the dēvatā and reflects the same as bliss within the sādhaka.
4. The next modification of Yōnimudrā is called śāṅkarī, which is said to be very dear to Tripurabhairavī.
5. Another form of the Yōnimudrā is named śāradī, and is said to be very pleasing to śāradā.
6. The mudrā recognized in Pāñcarātrāgama as Mūlayōni mudrā is another modification of the basic mudrā.
7. The next version of the mudrā is called Ardhayōni mudrā that is used for specific activities during saparyā vidhi.
8. The eighth form of the mudrā is called Yōginī-yōnimudrā which pleases the sixty-four crore Yōginīs.
Some lineages consider Trikhaṇḍā as the ninth form of Yōnimudrā.
