The sacred mantra of śrī Mahāgaṇapati constitutes of twenty-eight letters. The śāstra says:
gaṇēśastarpaṇa priyaḥ ||
One can earn the grace of the Lord speedily by offering caturāvr̥tti tarpaṇa. There are eight different schemes of caturāvr̥tti tarpaṇa taught in different Gāṇapatya śāstras. As taught in our sampradāya, the mūlamantra of Mahāgaṇapati is divided into fourteen parts of 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 5, 5, 2, 2, 1, 2, 3 and 2 letters each. Each of these fourteen mantrakhaṇḍas represents a vācya-vācaka pair. Vācaka is the śakti and vācya is cit. Various merits are attained by worshipping these mūrtis.
1. Māyā and Brahma: ātmajñāna
2. Srī and Srīpati: dharma
3. Girijā and Girijāpati: artha
4. Rati and Ratipati: kāma
5. Mahī and Mahīpati: mōkṣa
6. Siddhalakṣmyambā and Mahāgaṇapati: sarvakāryasiddhi
7. Buddhi and āmōda: bhukti
8. Samr̥ddhi and Pramoda: tr̥pti
9. Kānti and Sumukha: santōṣa
10. Madanāvati and Durmukha: santāna
11. Madadravā and Avighna: vighnanāśa
12. Drāviṇī and Vighnakartā: sarvavaśya
13. Vasudhārā and śaṅkhanidhi: sarvadēvānugraha
14. Vasumatī and Padmanidhi: aṣṭasiddhi
Thus, it can be seen that there is no fruit that cannot be attained through the upāsanā of Mahāgaṇapati.
A combination of Paśupati, Gāyatrī, Mahāgaṇapati and Rolamba mantras forms the abhēdya astra named Vaināyakāstra which was used by shiva to destroy Shankhacūḍa. This forms the first of the four Vaināyakī kr̥tyas.
