[Query] Vedanta views maya as cause of bondage but the same maya is worshipped as devi. How can this worship grant liberation?
Even if one assumes that Devi is exclusively mAyA, what is the adhiShThAna sattA for mAya? Is that not Brahman? In that case, upAsanA of mAyA would actually have the Brahman as the upAsya. To generalize, in Srividya Upasna, the upAsya is thus shakti-vishishTa Brahman (there has been some discussion on this topic, available in the archives). Neither can mAyA have existence without the Brahman nor can upAsyatva be ascribed to Brahman non-variegated by mAyA. Thus, upAsanA here is of mAyA shabalita brahman and not of mAyA, which is true not only for Srividya but any other mode of saguNopAsanA.
That said, one should carefully observe the Sruti: sAbravIdaham brahmasvarUpiNI, swAtmaiva lalitA proktA etc. Also, the above is illustrated by the name tatpadalakShyArthA in Rahasya Sahasranama.
